He's a drummer that Dennis Chambers said in an enterview that he was one of his favorite drummers, and Vinnie said in an interview I think it was in the Guitar Center interview, that he was listening to this cd "Fred Hammond & Redical for Christ" the cd Pages of life chapters 1 & 2 , he said that in this time he was listening to this cd very very much, and honestly is a very funk cd and a great piece of sick music and very funky a great and a must have cd.... So check it out...!!!!!!!!

He's super great, man. I have the live/studio cd and I've watched the DVD AND VHS. (Fred Hammond)
It's very powerful music. It's contemporary Urban Gospel.

Sounds interesting. I recently heard some cool drumming on another gospel CD, called "Not Guilty" by John P Kee. Has anyone heard it? The little I heard sounded really good.

Damn! Is this Marvin McQuitty guy on the John P. Kee stuff? I just got into that stuff about a month ago. There is some GREAT GREAT playing on that stuff. Is that how you spell the guy's name? McQuitty?

No, that was not what I meant, I just meant to say that the CD "Not Guilty" (J P Kee) also had some cool drumming on it.

Greeting, fellow HOD'ers! I have read the posts on this forum for about a year, but have not posted myself (yet). I saw this topic and immediately perked up..I cut my musical teeth on gospel..
Gospel Drummers are unsung MONSTERS! These cats are very scary..Deep pocket, merciless chops, musical touch, and fresh ideas..No matter what musical genre you prefer, you will definitely dig alot of this playing.
*Marvin McQuitty: who is Fred Hammonds drummer (Fred being a bass genius, songwriter, producer)is a very nice player. Check out Fred Hammonds live DVD's, gospel being a live experience type of thing.
*Calvin Rodgers: Not only did he play on John P. Kee's 'Not Guilty' but he shines on Kim Burrells Live Album 'Live in Concert. He is Funkier than and old batch of collard greens! Did I mention his musicality?
*Dana Davis: Longtime Winans drummer. Sick! I shedded Ron Winans Family and Friends albums for years.
*Calvin Napper: Check Calvin out on Twinkie Clarkes 'Twinkie Clarke and Friends: Live in Charlotte'. Napper shines on the cut 'Jesus Saves' with his dislocated, over the bar in tom/splash intro..Gotta hear this cat! He also does his thing on multipe Donald Lawrence and Tri-City Singers Albums..
I could probably go on ad infinitum, but just to echo some of the others earlier comments. Black Gospel music has a wealth of drumming talent to offer, and it is worth checking out. This artform, IMO, is transcendant and live. The drumming is choice...Check it out, if you so dare. BTW, any other gospel drummers out there, holla back..

I have to agree with CapCity on this one. Whenever I hear a drummer layin' it down in a big way, sure enough he's done a whole lot of drumming in a black church.

Marvin McQuitty Website
I figured a few people here might be interested to know that Marvin has his own website, though there's nothing on there right now. And, according to Zildjian's website, he will be releasing a solo cd and an inspirational drum video soon.
